Are you a Capricorn...or an Aquarius? A Taurus...or a Gemini? A Cancer...or a Leo?
Now, if you are into astrology, you are looking at those above either/or scenarios and thinking I have gone crazy. No two signs could be more different than those pairs above. So, you can only imagine how confused those special cusps (ah yes, you remember this slang of mine?) must feel!
I can't tell you how many people ask me "What does it mean to be a cusp sign?" and "How is a cusp so different from the two signs it is stuck between?" and, of course, "Which signs are most compatible with cusps and/or MY cusp?"
All very good questions. And since I am tired of listening to them over and over again, I thought I would take some opportunities to clear this foggy air. Sure, I am only scratching the surface. If you have more questions...go to a library. Check out a book on astrology and cusps. You ask too many questions!!! Just kidding of course...I suggest going to a book store, that way you can BUY the book and keep referring back to it instead of asking me again.
OK, so here goes.
As we discussed in the last blog, a cusp is literally stuck in between two very different signs. Let's do a quick review.
You are stuck in between an Earth and an Air Sign if you are born in any of these date ranges:
January 18-22 (Capricorn and Aquarius)
May 19-23 (Taurus and Gemini)
September 19-24 (Virgo and Libra)
You are stuck between a Fire and an Earth Sign if you are born in any of these date ranges:
April 19-23 (Aries and Taurus)
August 19-24 (Leo and Virgo)
December 19-23 (Sagittarius and Capricorn)
You are stuck between an Air and a Water Sign if you are born in any of these date ranges:
February 18-23 (Aquarius and Pisces)
June 19-23 (Gemini and Cancer)
October 19-23 (Libra and Scorpio)
You are stuck between a Water and a Fire Sign if you are born in any of these date ranges:
March 19-23 (Pisces and Aries)
July 19-23 (Cancer and Leo)
November 19-22 (Scorpio and Sagittarius)
So what does this all mean if your birthday falls in any of those ranges listed above? It means you play for BOTH teams, even though you find yourself enjoying one more than the other. And that's OK. There also may be some of you out there who, albeit on a cusp, don't like flip-flopping and stick with just one side. And that's OK too (note: this is a rare individual). Either way, as I mentioned in my last blog, you are a special sign. You have a blend of two opposing forces, which allows you to expand your horizons, likes/dislikes, and personalities.
It also bodes well in dating. You can pretty much date ANY sign you wish seeing as you have a blend of two opposing elements, thereby attracting all signs to you. And, luckily, most cusps end up together. That's a TON of fun!
But let's get into the nitty gritty, ok? Let's talk personality and specific best matches.
Capricorn/Aquarius(born January 18-22):
This cusp is stuck in between practical, resourceful, money-saving and conservative Capricorn and the quirky, outgoing, out-of-the-box, spending-crazy Aquarius. Tough indeed! People on this cusp love politics, debates and power. They are often in positions where they can voice their opinions freely and not be slandered for sounding harsh or mean. This cusp doesn't care much about what other people think of them because they march to their own beat. They work hard, play hard, and while they may spend a lot of money, they know how to earn it too. Best Matches: Taurus/Gemini Cusp, Virgo/Libra Cusp.
Aquarius/Pisces(born February 18-22):
This cusp is stuck between outgoing, unemotional and loud Aquarius with the softer, more sensitive, emotional and tempermental Pisces. They are often confused about who they are, what they want, and how to be happy. Prone to addictions and to insecurities, this Cusp has to harness their own power and learn not to be so wishy-washy or concerned with what other people think. They also need to make sure that in trying not to be so defensive about their actions (of which they are already questioning and wondering if they did the right thing), they don't come off as harsh and mean (or worse yet, selfish!). The good news? They can be extremely warm and affectionate when they want to be. Best Matches: Gemini/Cancer Cusp, Libra/Scorpio Cusp.
Pisces/Aries(born March 19-23):
This cusp is stuck between idealistic, wishy-washy, introspective Pisces and bold, driven and materialistic Aries. They are often focused on security, power and their struggle between being too bold and too soft. Their cusp is torn between action and inaction, thinking vs. doing, believing vs. seeing. People born during these dates tend to be very focused on their careers and moving up the career/social ladder in life. They hate to fail and internalize all their worries and insecurities. While they come off as quiet, sometimes even demure, don't be fooled- they can be quite the powerhouse! Best Matches: Leo/Virgo Cusp, Scorpio/Sagittarius Cusp.
Aries/Taurus (born April 19-23):
This cusp is stuck between powerful, dominant, bold and materialistic Aries and stubborn, resilient, soulful and attention-hungry Taurus. People born on this cusp are well known for being stubborn, sometimes harsh, and display a true dichotomy between strong and insecure, needy and independent, stubborn and even MORE stubborn. They are quite dogmatic about their beliefs and refuse to back down from their convictions. While this can be a good thing, it can also be their weakest point as compromise may not be in their vocabulary. Best Matches: Sagittarius/Capricorn Cusp, Leo/Virgo Cusp.
Taurus/Gemini (born May 19-23):
This cusp is stuck between stubborn, practical, introspective Taurus and fickle, optimistic and outgoing Gemini. People born on this cusp struggle between their private and personal life conflict, i.e. who they really are versus what they show the world. This Cusp struggles with being indecisive/fickle vs. being stubborn/unyielding, thinking realistically vs. being idealistic. The great news is that when stuck between such a practical sign and such an outgoing/optimistic sign, people born on this Cusp can be completely amusing to watch. Their behaviors may change easily and they are always willing to entertain, philosophize and listen (not to mention TALK). They are blunt in a harmless way and are always on hand with an opinion. Best Matches: Virgo/Libra Cusp, Aquarius/Pisces Cusp, Capricorn/Aquarius Cusp.
Gemini/Cancer (born June 20-23):
This Cusp is stuck between childlike, fickle and extroverted Gemini with emotional, sensitive, and introverted Cancer. People on this cusp are often confused with who they are and can either dread public appearances and lifestyles, or thrive on the attention of others. They can be emotionally unbalanced and insecure because they really are stuck between not caring at all about what other people think (Gemini) and caring so much they could cry if someone looks at them the wrong way (Cancer). They ARE very good at communicating and being expressive; after all, their introspective Cancer self will love being at home writing in their diary while the chatterbox Gemini determines how to make it sound like a best-selling novel. Best Matches: Libra/Scorpio Cusp, Aquarius/Pisces Cusp.
Cancer/Leo (born July 19-23):
This cusp is stuck between sensitive, emotional and introverted Cancer and proud, dominating and sexual Leo. People on this cusp struggle with being introverted and meek with being outgoing and demanding. It is kind of like the lamb versus the lion theory. Which would you rather be? Emotional instabilities and a strong need for attention are predominant characteristics for this Cusp. They love compliments and flattery, but they blush a little too hard when they get it. Same goes for criticism (hint: they don't handle that too well). Best Matches: Scorpio/Sagittarius Cusp, Pisces/Aries Cusp.
Leo/Virgo (born August 19-24):
People born on this cusp struggle between pride, domination, power and charismatic sex appeal versus being introverted, withdrawn, logical and insecure. Coming out of the powerful Leo sign, which is no stranger to sexuality, boldness of thought and character, and into Virgo, which questions, analyzes and thinks too much before ever spurring into action, makes people born on this cusp quite interesting indeed. They are often smart, charismatic and appealing...but sometimes get in trouble for what they say and how they say it (notably because they are torn between their blunt Leo attitude with their critical Virgo self). Those who can harness both sides of their personality can be quite the powerhouse and are often apt to get whatever it is they want. Best Matches: Aries/Taurus Cusp, Sagittarius Capricorn Cusp.
Virgo/Libra (born September 19-24):
This Cusp is torn between the practical, critical, over-analyzing Virgo with the talkative, flirtatious and crazy Libra. The great news is that those on this cusp are empowered by the overwhelming need for aesthetic beauty, harmony, purity and balance that both Virgo AND Libra strive to achieve, maintain or find in their lives. People born on this sign tend to be quite attractive, witty, funny and charismatic. The light attitude of the Libra, who is motivated by love and peace, with the more serious attitude of the Virgo, who is motivated by the pursuit of perfection, can make this Cusp sign incredibly balanced, happy and lucky. Best Matches: Taurus/Gemini Cusp, Capricorn/Aquarius Cusp.
Libra/Scorpio (born October 19-23):
Those born on this Cusp are torn between the need for harmony, balance and happiness in this easy-go-lucky Libra world with the more intense, mysterious and moody Scorpio. They struggle between keeping things "light" and fun versus getting knee-deep in mud and figuring out why people are the way they are, why things work a certain way, and which religious dogma is more accurate than the other. People born on this cusp are drawn to religion, law and justice. They feel passionately and are bent on finding the truth in a situation or getting to the bottom of the story. Best Matches: Gemini/Cancer Cusp, Aquarius/Pisces Cusp.
Scorpio/Sagittarius (born November 19-22):
People born on this Cusp struggle between the powerfully quiet, introspective and mysterious nature of the Scorpio with the outgoing, adventurous, blunt and freedom loving Sagittarius. They tend to struggle between saying what is on their mind and keeping things to themselves. Great at understanding people's personalities right off the bat, this Cusp can wield a lot of power and influence over others. They come off as contained, put together and aloof, but once you get to know them, they are quite opinionated, headstrong and passionate. They hate rules and bosses; being independent and in charge is a natural comfort zone for this cusp. Best Matches: Taurus/Gemini Cusp, Pisces/Aries Cusp, Cancer/Leo Cusp.
Sagittarius/Capricorn (born December 19-23):
Those born on this cusp struggle between the blunt, out-going and adventurous Sagittarius personality with the more conservative, traditional and unemotional Capricorn. Since both signs love their food, love to travel and love money/success, they are apt to be quite concerned with their career and financial status. HOW to become successful is their biggest struggle. They are torn between Sag's need to be entertaining and thrill-seeking and the Cap's need to follow the rules and be socially acceptable and lawful. All they want is to feel as if they fit in...and moe often than not, they feel they don't. This cusp is never at a loss for words or being blunt; nor are they at a loss as to where to find the nearest bar. Since both Sag's and Cap's need to watch out for addictions (notably drugs, alcohol and sex), those born on this cusp need to be mindful of their weaknesses. Best Matches: Aries/Taurus Cusp, Gemini/Cancer Cusp, Leo/Virgo Cusp.

The PISCES 4-1-1
Element: Water
Ruling Planet: Neptune, Jupiter
Quality: Mutable
Nature: Negative, Feminine
Symbol: Fish
Health Alert: Pisces rule the feet and its structural bones and toes. They must be careful with sprains, stubbed toes, ankle issues, bunions, or broken bones. Since many Pisces are avid runners, dancers or sports-enthusiasts, they need to learn to guard their feet to avoid permanent damage or invasive surgery. Internally, Pisces rule the lymphatic system. They must take caution when it comes to internal inflammation, gland functions in general, and problems with drugs. Allergic reactions to drugs, and a susceptibility to addictions, can become a serious issue for Pisces, who use drugs and alcohol to escape reality or numb themselves from their intense emotions. These said emotions can cause Pisces to struggle with depression and psychosomatic illnesses more often than not. Most of their health issues stem from emotional distress, and as such, they tend to have a weak immune system to fight off colds, flu, sinus infections, or other illnesses. Therapeutic ways of avoiding addictive tendencies and reducing stress on the body would be yoga or Pilates, which most Pisces love because it helps them to feel spiritually aligned as well. Last but not least, Pisces tend to indulge in expensive tastes when it comes to rich foods. They should be wary of excessive drinking and eating, especially late night. Their bodies have a delicate system and their metabolism is a bit weaker than most.
Where to Find a Pisces: performing on-stage, whether it be a dance production, musical collaboration, or play. They are heavily involved in the arts, so when they aren’t on stage, they can likely be found working late hours in an art or dance studio, reading in a bookstore, rehearsing their lines with a cast mate, cooking in a restaurant, or attending a lecture on religion or philosophy. You may also find a lot of Pisces working in marketing or graphic design firms, as they get to apply their artistic skills in a corporate environment. You can also find them near water (ocean, lake, etc) meditating or just watching the scenery while writing down their latest poem or chapter in their novel. Most Pisceans are involved in charity work and the Church, so an easy target would be to go to a worship service or sign up for volunteer work in your area (animal shelters, soup kitchens, mentoring programs, campaign fundraising, etc). New Age workshops, readings, or events is a prime target for the typical Pisces, who is very in-tune with alternative lifestyles. This said lifestyle leads them to organic food markets and grocery stores, too. If all else fails, you are guaranteed to find a Pisces in a yoga or Pilates studio (and probably, they are teaching the class!).
How to Spot a Pisces: they are fairly easy to spot because they tend to stand out like a sore thumb in a crowd. Many of them have light eyes that are soft and soulful, which they use to analyze the environment around them. They won’t be the loud person in the room always talking. In fact, they will be the quiet one you have to draw out of their shell. Once they are drawn out, they can be quite witty and charming, surprising most people. A hearty laugh that throws their head back, and frequent movements of their head is also a noticeable trait (that “huh? me?” what?” movement). It’s almost as if they look like someone has splashed water on their face. Their faces, and facial movements, are quite expressive when they become animated—otherwise, they can look like a deer in headlights most of the time. They may wave their arms around when they talk as well, almost as if they are dancing or giving a grand speech in their head at the same time that they are sitting down and talking to you about their day. The women are drawn to floral prints and very feminine pieces (sheer fabrics, summer dresses, scarves, subdued prints, etc) that allow them to move easily and comfortably. The less glamorous Pisces woman will wear jeans and a fleece jacket or t-shirt all the time (and some kind of creative addition, like a scarf around their head, a cool/different piece of jewelry, or a fun headband) or have a more hippy look (flowing printed dresses an earth tones), and the more glamorous will have no problem decking herself out in jewels, a fur coat, and a plunging neckline showing her curvy figure (think of Elizabeth Taylor when she was young). She uses her clothes to define herself as either a sexy siren or a natural beauty. The men love wearing blues and greens, and will often be in khakis or some other relaxed-wear. In business, they are always in sharp suits and have impeccable taste. They like to look good—it helps them charm the women more so that they can get what they want!
How to Attract a Pisces: have a kind heart, an interest in the arts and in their passion for the arts, and be attractive. Pisces are very visual and don’t like things that look messy or in disarray—it throws them off balance. If you are a good soul, with a strong will, they will fall madly in love with you. Typically, a Pisces is first attracted sexually, but will wait to get to know you better before really falling in love (Do you have the same interests? Are you spiritual? Do you respect yourself? Are you a family person?). Ironically, even though Pisces are attracted to pretty people, they are turned off by materialistic ones. A Pisces man loves an attractive, feminine woman, but if she spends too much money on shoes, bags, or clothes, or expects that he spends his money on her, he is quickly turned off. He will view her motives as selfish, materialistic, and greedy. A Pisces woman is always looking for a man who is put together and successful. She needs to feel secure and taken care of, and a well dressed man with a good bank account is definitely the route to her heart, even if he can be slightly selfish or self-involved, she falls for his charms. The general rule of thumb, however, is just to be a good, nice person—someone that a Pisces considers to be honest, virtuous, and loyal. A wicked sense of humor will also help you. Many Pisces are in the entertainment industry, notably as comedians or actors, and love making people laugh. You should take to heart that Pisces have very volatile emotions, as well. This means they can be obsessed with you one moment, and disinterested in the next. Be willing to ride their emotional waves (and sometimes, tsunamis) if you want to spend a lifetime together.
How to Lose a Pisces: being more emotionally erratic than they are, loud, or pretentious, is a great way to get rid of your Pisces. They may hang in there for a while because they dig a little bit of the crazy (they are crazy too, after all), but they will quickly swim upstream after a short while. They loathe nasty behavior, ugly people, negative personalities, and irresponsible partners. Female Pisces are looking for a strong, alpha male to protect them; male Pisces are looking for a feminine, faithful and kind-hearted alpha female to nourish them. It’s really that simple. So, if you don’t fall within the lines, you simply don’t matter to a Pisces.

FAMOUS PISCES

Clockwise: Javier Bardem, Glenn Close, Daniel Craig, Jessica Biel, Benicio del Toro, Eva Longoria, Justin Bieber, Drew Barrymore, Michael Cain, Rachel Weisz, Steve Jobs, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Billy Crystal, Queen Latifah, Spike Lee, Chelsea Handler, Mitt Romney, Chelsea Clinton, Ralph Nader, Elizabeth Taylor, Albert Einstein, Liza Minnelli, Alan Greenspan, Rue McClanahan, Rob Lowe, Lauren Graham, Bruce Willis, Juliette Binoche, Kurt Russell, Cindy Crawford, Bon Jovi, Vanessa Williams
The PISCES Best & Worst List
Best Qualities: intuitive, nurturing and soulful, Pisces have a way about them that makes people drawn to them. Whether it is because they are mysterious, seem innocent, or make people feel coddled and needed, they are like Mother Nature radiating warmth and harmony. Romantic and charming, Pisces easily find partners in their life to fulfill their needs. Their creativity is limitless, whether they are a male or a female. Male Pisces tend to focus more on cooking or music, and are therefore often found running a kitchen or writing their own music and/or playing an instrument of their choice. Their girlfriends have swooned over their emotional sensitivity and way with words—especially when they put the words in a romantic poem or song while playing their guitar. Female Pisces are more apt to write (poems, short stories) or be an artist or dancer. They have a strong need to use their sense of touch and their free spirit in their creative endeavors and are not afraid to express themselves through dancing, painting, or singing. Regardless of their sex, Pisces are extremely expressive on paper and often live in a fantasy world. Their artistic inclinations just make them very different from the average Joe (or Jane). Their emotions are so strong and finely tuned that, when they become too overwhelming, they can turn them into something beautiful, if they so desire. Inclined to spirituality and New Age beliefs, Pisces is a sign that is typically psychic and somewhat mystical. As the oldest sign of the Zodiac that is also connected astrologically to Jesus Christ, they have profound wisdom and beliefs in a higher power. Many Pisces are strongly linked to churches and religious leaders, and/or are involved in charitable works, volunteering, holistic healing, or counseling.
Worst Qualities: Pisces live in a fantasy world that makes it seem as if they are oh-so-mysterious (people can’t help but wonder “what ARE they thinking about?”), but the reality is that they are so confused about how they feel that they very rarely can make a decision about which mood they are in or which direction to go. Indecisiveness is a big challenge for Pisces and can sometimes render them immutable and left whining and throwing a tantrum because they simply can’t decide between hot and cold, happy or sad, left or right. As fickle as a child, their decisions and actions are at the beck and call of their mood de jour. Making a commitment to a decision, feeling, or idea can be excruciating for them and they end up delegating the decision to someone else. Pisces say that they hate hurting someone’s feelings, but the truth is that many of them get a sadistic kick out of hurting the ones they love. They can be completely self-absorbed and self-centered, so it is hard for them to strike a fine balance between making a decision that is best for them while still making it seem as if they are putting other people’s feelings into consideration. Violent tempers, mood swings, possessive, and addictive personalities are very common to Pisces. Many are apt to deal with depression, jealousies, and feelings of inadequacy or unexplained sadness. Sometimes living in their own fantasy world with their head in the clouds makes the landing on Earth a crash and burn reality. Pisces need to learn to not transfer their own feelings of unhappiness or inadequacy onto their loved ones, or they may end up terribly alone. Also, when a Pisces has made up their mind, they can be incredibly loyal to that decision, which can be a heavy burden on those who don’t agree.
Best Matches: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio
Taurus thrives in the home and needs to feel protected, secure, and loved. Taurus, after all, is in love with the idea of love—wishing that the world is full of romance and sex. In comes Pisces, who, with a wave of a wand, can make all their dreams seem true. Both signs are also drawn to the intensity of touch and are very ethereal. They aren’t afraid to explore their sexuality together and see what happens in the bedroom. Spiritual conversations, intense emotional bonds, and a sense of comfort comes easily when these two signs are paired together. They will be best friends and lovers, which is, after all, the sweetest thing. Famous Couples: Javier Bardem (Pisces) and Penelope Cruz (Taurus), Cindy Crawford (Pisces) and Randy Gerber (Taurus), Eva Longoria (Pisces) and Tony Parker (Taurus), Liza Minnelli (Pisces) and David Gest (Taurus)
Virgo is Pisces perfect astrological opposite. This is to say that they can either be a great couple, or a horrible one. While Pisces may find making a decision hard, Virgo is more apt to say “this is what you do and how you do it.” And when both are stuck for a decision, the over-analytical Virgo and the dreamlike Pisces can sit together for hours arriving at the best decision and exploring all the pro’s and con’s of the situation. Virgo enjoys Pisces mystical and seemingly innocent (and slightly neurotic) side; Pisces delights in Virgo’s purity and strength. Virgo is always reliable when it comes to Pisces because a Virgo always feels the need to protect or nurture their wounded partner. However, Virgo can easily become annoyed with Pisces’ inconsistencies and inability to make decisions. Pisces can feel over-analyzed and criticized by Virgo. The truth is that both are at fault here by simply being who they are. Famous Couples: Cindy Crawford (Pisces) and Richard Gere (Virgo), Emily Blunt (Pisces) and Michael Buble (Virgo)
Capricorn’s drive, stamina, and discipline provide the backbone that the Pisces has always been searching for. Capricorns know how to get things done and get them done right, especially in business and finance. They seldom question their actions and just go for it, something which a Pisces can’t help but admire. Also, since Pisces tends to spend money a bit more recklessly, they benefit greatly by Capricorn’s shrewd financial planning and investment advice. So what does the Pisces bring to the table? Capricorns tend to be aloof and not evolved emotionally speaking—these goats can be a bit too harsh and cold while climbing to the top of that mountain. That’s where Pisces comes in, softening the rough edges of the Capricorn and calming them down, telling them when they are being inappropriate, mean, or too damn cold-hearted. Famous Couples: Penny Lancaster (Pisces) and Rod Stewart (Capricorn), Christine Baumgartner (Pisces) and Kevin Costner (Capricorn), Pat Nixon (Pisces) and Richard Nixon (Capricorn)
Cancer will feel at home in Pisces deep emotional waters; these two literally are as happy as a crab (Cancer) and a fish (Pisces) swimming together in the vast ocean. They are both emotional, sensitive and moody, and feel as if they have found their perfect soul mate in each other. Whether it is staying at home for a nice evening by candlelight, or reading a book in the corner of the living room while sipping on a nightcap, these two simply enjoy each other’s comforting presence. Cancer is a very witty and driven sign, as is Pisces, and together their conversations will flow smoothly and easily. More importantly, neither sign is afraid to call the other out on their BS, and knows when to leave well enough alone. Their union will be mystical, and their bond intensive and somewhat possessive, but that’s how they both roll when it comes to love. At the very least, both of them will be able to understand each other’s emotional volatility. Famous Couples: Kurt Cobain (Pisces) and Courtney Love (Cancer), Johnny Cash (Pisces) and June Carter Cash (Cancer), Vanessa Williams (Pisces) and Rick Fox (Cancer)
Scorpio’s more intense, sensual qualities invigorate Pisces to feel more sexual and sensual—these two will certainly have a romantically charged relationship where feelings and emotions seem very heightened and magnified. Both are very spiritual signs and will be drawn to an alternative lifestyle together and will judge each other rarely, and love each other permanently. They may not marry, but they will happily spend the rest of their lives together. Intellectual stimulation and friendship rules this couple first and foremost, but a healthy physical attraction is definitely there. They both sense what the other needs (for Scorpio, they need space and freedom, especially from judgment; for Pisces, they need attention, coddling, and adoration). Famous Couples: Kurt Russell (Pisces) and Goldie Hawn (Scorpio), Bruce Willis (Pisces) and Demi Moore (Scorpio), Michael Bolton (Pisces) and Nicollette Sheridan (Scorpio), Tom Arnold (Pisces) and Roseanne (Scorpio), Julia Cameron (Pisces) and Martin Scorsese (Scorpio), Elizabeth Taylor (Pisces) and Richard Burton (Scorpio), Alan Greenspan (Pisces) and Andrea Mitchell (Scorpio)
Worst Matches: Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, Pisces
Gemini’s mercurial wit and personality certainly charms the Pisces, who is mesmerized by Gemini’s social persona. Both signs are mutable, meaning they are able to adapt to the energy or changes in a room/environment. Their flexibility will be essential in making this pair last. Pisces may want to cling or attach themselves to Gemini’s rollercoaster ride—and it may last for a short while. That is, until the Gemini is tired of being bored by Pisces’ sensitive or possessive nature, desire to stay home, or depressive/quiet moods. The only thing Pisces would love to chat about non-stop is the way they are feeling about a situation, which is probably the quickest way to lose a Gemini who can’t STAND to talk about their feelings all the time and would probably prefer talking to a wall instead. Pisces can be too unreliable and unstable for Gemini, who needs a partner who will ground them and their flighty twins. That being said, if a Gemini has been wounded in love before, and craves a nurturing and committed soul, a Pisces may just fit the bill. Famous Couples: Seal (Pisces/Aquarius cusp) and Heidi Klum (Gemini), Drew Barrymore (Pisces) and Justin Long (Gemini), Ivana Trump (Pisces) and Donald Trump (Gemini), Drew Barrymore (Pisces) and Fabrizio Moretti (Gemini), Callista Gingrich (Pisces) and Newt Gingrich (Gemini)
Sagittarius and Pisces, at some point, will find themselves together. It doesn’t normally last long, and it normally doesn’t end well, but nonetheless, it is a trap they often fall into. Sagittarius falls for Pisces unworldly and imaginative persona. They are so intriguing and ethereal, that the Sagittarius feels challenged to “capture” the Pisces. It is important to note that this pairing is more common when the man is the Sagittarius and the woman is the Pisces. The female Pisces will fall for the charming Sagittarius man who is adventurous, funny and goal-oriented. As she is typically weak on those traits, she feels incredibly drawn to this “foreign” energy and wants to be a part of it for a while. Likewise, the Sagittarius man is humbled by the emotional, sensitive, and creative Pisces woman—she seems so delicate and charming and perfect. That is, until she starts crying because she doesn’t have his attention, or when she complains he doesn’t love her or show his emotions enough. The Sag gets annoyed by the wishy-washy Pisces and her inability to make a decision. Angers flare and the Pisces woman throws a bucket of water over the enraged fiery Sagittarius…and then it is over. Famous Couples: Chris Webber (Pisces) and Tyra Banks (Sag)
Leo is sexual and shows love and emotions easily (and demands a lot of attention), so at the very least, a Pisces and a Leo will not worry about expressing their feelings accordingly. Since Leo likes being in charge and telling others what to do, and Pisces is looking to be told what to do, this pair can actually work. HOWEVER, Leo hates whining and hates being held back by emotionally weakness, such as manipulation, depression, or moodiness. And Pisces do that oh-so-well. As long as Leo can handle Pisces’ emotional persona, and Pisces won’t take Leo’s bossiness as a symbol of domination, they may find love together. At the very least, they will find great sex. Famous Couples: Justin Beiber (Pisces) and Selena Gomez (Leo/Cancer Cusp), Tea Leoni (Pisces) and David Duchovny (Leo), Elizabeth Taylor (Pisces) and Eddie Fisher (Leo), Desi Arnaz (Pisces) and Lucille Ball (Leo), Lauren Graham (Pisces) and Peter Krause (Leo)
Two Pisces together is a disaster. Too many emotions, too little motivation, and far too little direction, leaves these two a complete mess together. Pisces needs a more practical counterpart (or backbone) to make it in this world. Famous Couples: Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig
Surprisingly Good Matches: Aquarius, Aries, Libra
Aquarius has a natural humanitarian instinct, which appeals to the nurturing Pisces. Yet, these two can have a limited fuse for one another. Aquarius tends to be too unemotional or unstable for the sensitive Pisces. While the Aquarius wants to be out and about, socialize and meet new people, the Pisces hates crowds or social events and prefers to be a loner and either stay at home, or watch and observe the crowd. Pisces do better in a one-on-one capacity with someone they know, and nothing, NOTHING, is as boring to an Aquarian as someone who doesn’t know how to carry a conversation with a complete stranger. Aquarius also tends to be a hard worker and puts in long hours at the office, always focusing on making money or vast improvements in the world. While Pisces respects this, they tend to thrive more on balance. Where they will understand one another is in trying to help mankind improve itself. They may pursue it from different angles (Aquarius thinks big, whereas Pisces thinks on a smaller scale), but pursue it they will. Both signs are incredibly charming, so they can channel their flirtatious personas into a very sexy relationship IF they are willing to understand one another’s differences and realize the treasure they have found in one another. If Aquarius is smart enough to acknowledge how lucky they are to have a soulful Pisces in their life to calm them down, and if Pisces is willing to admit they need Aquarius to motivate them to be the best person they can be, then they wouldn’t be such a bad couple after all. They could be great, in fact. Famous Couples: Jessica Biel (Pisces) and Justin Timberlake (Aquarius), Rachel Weisz (Pisces) and Darren Aronofsky (Aquarius), Elizabeth Taylor (Pisces) and John Warner (Aquarius), Stedman Graham (Pisces) and Oprah Winfrey (Aquarius), Paul Newman (Aquarius) and Joanne Woodward (Pisces)
Aries can be very superficial and needs to be in the spotlight at all times. Since Pisces can be turned off by excessive material wealth, this can be a weird match. BUT, if the man is the Aries in this picture, and the female is a Pisces, then there is some hope. A female Pisces loves being taken care of and loves feeling rich, decked out in jewels, fur coats, and expensive décor. She almost has a childlike delight at feeling like the princess in her own fairytale world. The Aries man thrives in providing her all of these things, especially since she looks so great in them and she is so appreciative of these gifts. He provides her not only with material security, but also a sense of adventure. If she doesn’t get jealous of his flirtatious character, and he doesn’t get bothered by her clingy behavior, they can really work well together. Famous Couples: Freddie Prinze Jr. (Pisces) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Aries), Mitt Romney (Pisces) and Ann Romney (Aries)
Libra is all about harmony, balance, aesthetic pleasure, and peace. For this reason, Pisces can’t help but feel attracted to the world their charming Libra has created for them. As long as Pisces isn’t bothered by Libra’s social personality and constant over-analyzing, and Pisces doesn’t pull their infamous bouts of rage or temper tantrums, these two can co-exist very happily together. They just need to understand that their temperaments and personalities are different—but not different enough to give them a shot at trying it out. The Libra is a go-getter, planner and motivator. All of which are Pisces’ weakest traits. The Pisces is emotionally thoughtful, purposeful and sensitive, all of which can sometimes be Libra’s weakest traits. This pair can be a ying to the other’s yang if the stars are aligned correctly when they meet. Famous Couples: Chris Martin (Pisces) and Gwyneth Paltrow (Libra), Jon Bon Jovi (Pisces) and Dorothea Hurley (Libra), Dana Reeve (Pisces) and Christopher Reeve (Libra), Joel Madden (Pisces) and Hilary Duff (Libra)
A New Year of Resolutions...
Another blank calendar year staring us straight in the face. SCARY! It is no surprise that this is the time of year when people make big life changes/decisions. Looking straight down the barrel of another 364 days ahead, you just can’t bear another moment of your precious time being wasted doing something you hate, going somewhere you loathe, acting in a manner you despise, or simply just repeating the same mistake over and over and OVER again.
Well, as the saying goes…buck up, kiddo.
2008 is now here and important resolutions need to be made (and kept) for this year to be your best yet!
Some important LIFE To-Do items:
1. Think about what UNhappy aspects of your life need to be changed
2. Think about what parts of your life make you happy
3. Think about what is MISSING in your life to make you happy
4. Write a list of all of the above
5. Evaluate your list and place items in order of importance
6. Decide HOW to take action for each item
7. GO! What are you waiting for??

Now, some of you may wonder about my astro-items above and what the hell I am talking about. Let's review. I am a big fan of numerology (item #1 on To-Do List). There are two important numerology numbers to know: your Life Path Number (based on the year of your birth), and your Life Cycle Number (based on the current year). On the date you were born, your birthday added up to a particular number, listed 1-9, in numerology. This number is your Life Path Number and is much like your Astrological Sun Sign in that it identifies you by a certain number (or sign in the case of Astrology) to which you have a certain set of challenges, risks, skills and life missions. This number NEVER changes and is with you for the rest of your life. Then there is your life cycle number. This changes every year (i.e., if 2007 was your 1 year, then 2008 will be your 2 year, and then 2009 your 3 year, and so on). It is important to know your current life cycle number for each year to see what your particular challenges/rewards will be for the next 365 days of that year. So, in summary: your life path number is your general numerology for this lifetime; your life cycle number is your number only for that certain year.
Below are the simple equations used to attain each numerology number. To make it easy, I made an example from one birthday/person.
EXAMPLE: Your birthday is April 27, 1976
Life Path Number = Month + day + year of birth
4+2+7+1+9+7+6= 36
3+6= 9
Your life path number is 9.
Life Cycle Number = Month + day + CURRENT year
4+2+7+2+0+0+8= 23
2+3= 5
Your life cycle number for 2008 is 5.
You can use the link I posted above to see what each life number means. There is ONE exception to the rules above, however. For your Life Path Number ONLY (i.e. the number you have for your entire life based on your year of birth), there are 2 MASTER numbers. These master numbers are 11 and 22. If your birthday and year of birth add up to either 11 or 22, DO NOT reduce the number to 2 or 4, respectively. You are a master life number if you have either above and there are special numerology readings for you lucky people!
OK, math aside, the rest is easy. Chinese New Year (item #2) starts in February. 2008 is the year of the Earth Rat (ew). See what this means for you based on your own Chinese astrology sign. The link I provided can calculate your Chinese astrology sign based on your year and date of birth. Luckily the Chinese don’t care about your exact time of birth, so this doesn’t require calling Mom to find out what time you were born and starting a fight as to why she can’t remember whether you were born at 6am or 10am or, heck, 11pm. It also avoids her having to search through the attic or closet to find your "lost" birth certificate to check for confirmation.
Then there is the standard yearly and monthly horoscopes (items #3 and #4). I take the yearly (and monthly) with a grain of salt…after all, you can’t live your life based on a generalized horoscope for your sign; however, it is always amusing to see what the stars have planned for you and which dates may be ominous for your sign. As you saw from my last blog in 2007, every sign had particular challenges and rewards, so there is always a thread of truth in your sun sign reports! It also doesn’t hurt to know...better safe than sorry, right? I certainly would prefer to avoid buying electronics or signing any contracts when Mercury is in retrograde (which, by the way, happens January 28, 2008 through February 18, 2008 …UGH). For those who remember my November blog about Mercury in retrograde, you know this is NOT a good thing. And for the savvy ones who remember every word of my blog (ha!), you may remember I ended the Mercury retro trippin’ blog with an ominous note about Mars going retro from November 2007 through April 2008 and how wars and political unrest/turmoil occur when Mars, the planet of war, goes backwards. Have you been paying attention to the news recently? Hint: US presidential campaigns, Iran's nuclear weapons, Pakistan's military rule and recent assassination...
Scary!
So, determine to set 2008 on a positive path and work the planets to your advantage. Know the days that are best for love, career and health and let the planets work for you.
On a simple astrological level, why not work on some key issues that you know bother you (or others around you?).
Some simple thoughts:
Capricorn: try to work less. I know this is hard to conceptualize, but you are burning out from all those long hours and work trips. Relax, stay at home, open a bottle of wine and crash on your sofa. You deserve some R&R! Do I see a vacation coming your way soon?? I sure hope so!
Aquarius: try to set a goal. Your emotions are climbing again as you start to freak out about mounting work pressures, obligations, etc, now that the holidays have cooled. You aren’t happy with your profession right now…so take steps to find a new job, or at least a new plan of attack, pronto.
Pisces: try to make a firm decision. Your wishy-washy attitude is getting old. Stop asking other people what you should do and figure out what it is YOU want to do. After all, no one can be as selfish (and good at it) as a Pisces.
Aries: try to save some money. The holidays and NYE have certainly racked up some major bills (shopping, accessories, electronics, entertainment, et al) and you are feeling a bit drained, financially speaking. Work on saving money and scaling back a bit from that larger than life lifestyle you live.
Taurus: try to be less stubborn. It’s time to start being a bit more flexible with your expectations, plans and agendas rather than forcing people to comply to your own. Take a mental break and commit to being a better, more well-rounded, person this year. It doesn't always have to go YOUR way, so stop pouting. You may learn something about the value of consensus or teamwork in the process.
Gemini: try to de-stress a bit. I know it is hard for your over-active mind to “be clear” for a moment, but you need to do it for your own mental sanity. You are not enjoying life right now and are worrying too much. Stop it. Life is meant to be lived, not endured…and you know that better than most. As the children of the zodiac, getting into some mischievous behavior is second nature to you. The world needs a good prank/laugh every now and then. Consider it your duty to mankind.
Cancer: try to be more social and less emotional. You have been hiding out for too long. The world misses you! It’s time to shake your arse and hit a bar, dance club, or restaurant with some friends and catch them up on what has been going on with you. Right now, people are starting to think of you as the mad scientist who has gone crazy in the basement concocting something strange. FYI, that is NOT a pretty picture.
Leo: try to be less proud. Yes, it is a fine line between pride and self-confidence/esteem. We know you have ample amounts of both, but sometimes it becomes too haughty and annoying. Simmer down and play around for a bit...turn into a cat for a day rather than a lion. It may do you good to act as the "little people" for a day (heck, if you can hold out, shoot for 2 days!).
Virgo: try to stop over-analyzing everything. It may be second nature to you, but the world is a lot prettier (and a heck of a lot more fun) when you aren’t always finding what’s WRONG or MISSING in it. Even a Monet is a terrible mess when you look at it up close or analyze every detail. Take in the bigger picture and appreciate the forest from the trees. Tired of my cliches? Thought so.
Libra: try to hold back judgment. You focus so much on balance and harmony that you are sometimes a bit too opinionated when things don’t jive with what you think is right. Let go. Appreciate other peoples’ decisions for what they are and be a supportive friend and smile that winning smile of yours. Heck, throw in a great laugh or hug. It will make everyone, including yourself, feel better! Now THAT is real balance!
Scorpio: try being optimistic. It is easy to brood, mourn, worry and feel depressed…you are all too good at it! This you already know. So how about turning the tide and being positive? Expect the best, and maybe, gasp, it will happen! Throw on a sexy outfit (in your case, try the color RED since it is your power color) and go flaunt that intensely sexy side of yourself. Others won’t be able to resist.
Sagittarius: try to not be so blunt. Sure, you are honest, speak your mind and prefer to be direct rather than passive. We love that about you…most, err, some, of the time. But sometimes it just hurts a bit! While we appreciate your brutal honestly (after we have licked our wounds from the lashing), we may prefer it in a less brutal manner? If you have to rip off the band-aid, at least smile while you are doing it!
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!
Next Up: Which team do you play for?
Well, as the saying goes…buck up, kiddo.

A Year End Astrological Review
Well, you did it. Correction: WE did it. We ended another year, another chain of karmic coincidences, another period of spiritual enlightenment. Even if this year was shitty, depressing, bad, or just down right AWFUL, you still learned a lot and are a stronger and better person for having survived it without landing in jail, a mental ward or at a bar every night until last call being THAT drunk idiot. OK, if any of the above does apply to you, well, maybe this year sucked for you more than others (bright side? 2008 is around the corner!).
The end of another year always makes us reevaluate, analyze and question our decisions. What did we do wrong? What did we do right? What would we do again if given the chance? (This last question applies to both the good AND bad things we may or may not have done).
Have you done your mental checklist? Are you waiting for a post-drunken epiphany on New Year's Day before you begin? How about a head start?
Clearly, I am going to take stock of this year not only in terms of my own personal life, but also in terms of astrological profiling. Listen, I have a BLOG about ASTROLOGY. Obviously I kinda, sorta believe in this stuff. And since I like drawing comparisons/statistics between things and pulling together scientifically based conclusions (translation: I am drinking a glass of wine and thinking of all the weird coincidences of this past year and suddenly thought "WOW, what a GREAT post this would make for my blog."), I thought it would be fun to do a year end review for all the signs out there.
Yep. I am THAT crazy.
OK, so here is how my mental process went. I started thinking of everyone in my life and then divided them by their signs (I actually do this automatically anyways...a scary fact about the way my mind works). Then, I started thinking about their lives this past year. Then I started realizing that they all had...the SAME year. It shocked me when I realized that all my Virgo's had some SERIOUS decisions to make about their career, love lives, property and health (note the emphasis on health). All my Sagittarians worked harder than ever and made more money than ever...but still didn't know what to do. The Cancers all ran into their shells to avoid the world and de-stress from the pressures mounting in their lives. And my dear Geminis...ouch, what a dooze 2007 was, eh? Lots of drama, tears, new changes and beginnings. Some good, some, well, ouch.
I could keep on going, but then I would give everything away!!!
So, take time to read this list. Find your sign. See how well it applies to you. Keep in mind that I also thought of famous celebrities, my own coworkers and extended family/friends while doing this. It doesn't just apply to YOU (I have many Leo friends, and they automatically will assume this is all about them, so I have to put in this advanced disclaimer before I get the third degree from them).
The Year End Astrological Review
Capricorns: you asked for new changes in your work environment for a more flexible schedule…you didn’t think you would get it, but life can surprise you—you DID! Awesome, because you were THIS close to quitting. The hours were just getting too long. New money flowed into your bank account and it pleased you, especially since you found yourself SPENDING more of it this past year. Most Capricorns purchased a new home or new large object (car, wardrobe, furniture, business, etc) and spent time thinking of how to decorate it or improve it. This all ties in to you deciding you were tired of a lot of status quo things in your life. So what better way to combat status quo than to start PLANNING for new things on the horizon? And plan you did! You focused a lot on home improvements or building up a nest-egg for a new home. This year was great exercise in balancing your financially conservative nature with your desire to spend a lot to make things “just right.” Now that your job doesn't feel like the ball and chain it used to be, things are looking pretty darn good for 2008. Especially since Jupiter, the planet of luck, just moved into your sign for an ENTIRE YEAR. That's the equivalent of winning the astrological lottery.
Aquarians: this was a year of a lot of emotional turmoil and stress; planning for the future and that next chapter in your life was harder than you thought, huh? You worked excessively long hours and many of you didn’t think it was worth it. After all, you don’t even LIKE what you do or who you do it for! Huge emotional commitments were made as well: you either stayed in a relationship (forever?) or learned to let the ones that didn’t work go...forever. But that doesn't mean temptation didn't cross your path a few times first. You ended this year on a surprisingly optimistic and more hopeful beat than it started. Those emotional seas of turmoil have calmed down and it is smooth sailing right now. Nice. Enjoy! You certainly deserved it. Your body was buzzing with negativity and stress for way too long. And all those trips and plans (both professional and personal)…what a burn-out! Did you even manage to spend 2 weekends in a row at home this year? Didn’t think so…The good news is that you are now focusing on your career and life purpose. What to do next??...hmmm....seems like 2008 will be a defining year for you and that new project you are about to embark on. If you haven't done it yet, take note: quitting your job is involved in this new chapter.
Pisces: you are feeling more at peace with yourself this year. Life looks good. Many plans, parties and social obligations (that were entirely fun, and often planned by YOU) took up your calendar. Home is a safe haven and you enjoyed the company of your own four walls the best…especially with that certain someone. A few setbacks and disappointments about advancements at work/school popped up…but as the saying goes “Everything happens for a reason.” You focused on responsibility, maturity and life goals this year. WOW. You ARE growing up! Feels good, huh?
Aries: you were the star of your own show this year. Plenty of dazzling events to go to, lots of partying and, let’s be honest, you haven’t been this selfish (and that happy AND good at it) in a long time. It was all about you this year. Awesome. Some of you questioned your commitments and whether you made the right decision to be with that person…and you did. Even if it isn’t the “forever” type, they are who you need to be with right now. And don’t worry that you haven’t found a new job just yet. The truth is, you don’t know what you want to do next. So take a deep breath and figure it out while sipping on some eggnog at the holiday parties coming up. If you DID find a new job...isn't it funny how it was right under your nose the entire time? Lucky lucky you.
Taurus: you can’t be happy until you figure out who you are. And you can’t do that until you stop the soap opera dramas. It’s been a weird year, hasn’t it? Many of you found yourselves having to choose between a past and a present love, only to realize the past love is in the past for a reason…So you focused diligently on work, home (many of you redecorated), and balancing yourself out. Family was a big key for you and you found yourself happier around them than ever before. Like the bull you are, you decided to cement your roots this year, professionally and personally, and decided to be happy with your decision, regardless of the outcome. But, why is it you feel a bit quiet inside lately?? Things need to change. But HOW?
Geminis: it’s not been the best year, has it? You used wit, sarcasm and humor to get (or really, claw) your way through, but it seemed that everyone around you had drama, drama, drama…and since you didn’t want to focus on your own drama, you happily volunteered to be a sounding board. Work pressures (or rather, hours) have mounted, your health has taken a beating (one too many colds from all that stress), and you just need to SLEEP for a while. But it’s hard to do that when you constantly find something else to do, have another drama to solve, or just can’t sit still. Sadly, one too many Gemini’s (aka, all of them) had to deal with grief and mourning of losing loved ones this year and also had to come to terms with their less than stellar love life. Wow. Ouch. Work hasn’t motivated you, your love life needs to be rekindled, and drama is all around you. Congrats for still floating above water. The good news is many of you changed locations to a new home and had fun decorating it. Some of you relocated to a new job. Either way, the change of scenery at least kept you busy! And your wallets empty. Stop spending so much money!!
Cancers: as Frank Sinatra said, “I did it my way”…and boy did you this year. Most of you became extremely reclusive, suddenly realizing that most people around you exhausted you mentally and emotionally. You needed to become a hermit, draw yourself back in, regroup, rethink and reanalyze those next steps. This didn’t stop you from being there for your best friend in need, but you did it at a distance. Many of you asked for promotions and raises…and got them. It’s been a great year for professional advancements and new beginnings, notably summer onwards. The first half of this year kinda sucked. That’s why you decided to focus on YOU for the second half. How is it working for ya? It’s a bit lonely to be alone all the time, isn’t it? At the very least, you realized one important thing: you stress and worry too much about the wrong things and need to worry about you first and foremost. Since your love life proved to be counter-productive this year, maybe this new “balance” will help make for a better year in 2008? Embark on that new career, go after that person you want, and make 2008 more extroverted than 2007 (which isn't that hard to do, you little hermit you!).
Leos: changes, changes and more changes this year. Leo’s certainly had a lot on their plate in 2007. Many of you completely changed your lives, changed jobs, changed homes, and changed your perspectives. You took charge because, let’s face it, you just weren’t happy where you were before. You wanted more challenges, more stability, more money and more love. Challenges, well, you got them. Making so many big life choices all in one year brings a lot of baggage and issues to the surface. New projects and responsibilities seemed overwhelming. Many of you thought “WHAT have I gotten myself into?!” But it is starting to work out, isn’t it? You are starting to regain control and those changes you made…well, they are starting to look pretty good. Does this mean you are happy? Not quite. There are still some major issues nagging at you. Especially in your love life. Is he/she really the right one? Do they make you feel happier? Hmmm. BIG question there. Some of you answered it and ended things; others are still hoping for the best outcome. But you just aren’t sure what that is yet. Thankfully that new job or life altering change (work, home, both) is consuming your mind and allowing you to push other issues (that you quite frankly don’t feel like dealing with) aside. But one thing can’t be pushed aside: your finances. This year has been all about budgets, finances, errors in your bank reports, making more money professionally, investing more money, etc etc. Hey, all those changes have a price tag! And a pretty hefty one in your case.
Virgos: if you don’t see a hospital or a doctor again for the next 5 years, you will have thought you won the lottery. It’s been a dooze of a year health-wise for you. Many of you found yourselves dealing with significant health issues (yours AND those you love) and just wishing you could get a break. Your love life could be best defined as “rocky road ice cream.” Some parts sweet and enjoyable, other parts a bit tougher to chew. Many realized you were with the wrong person—they didn’t complete you, they didn’t understand you and more importantly, they didn’t love you the way you wanted to be loved. Frustrations mounted as you wondered “Do they love me? Where do I stand with them?” and suddenly you thought, “Wait, do I LOVE THEM?” Ah. That’s the million dollar question. You keep tossing the idea in your head "should I or shouldn't I end it?" The truth is, when you can't decide, it's because you know they aren't the right person. You of all people are looking for THE One. Sure, you love them. But you aren't IN love with them. But you hanged in there(maybe you still are) because, well, you wanted it to work out. It sucks being out there and being alone again, doesn’t it? Wouldn’t anyone be better than that certain selfish someone? Find a new job that you love, because the one you are in right now…it sucks. And you know it. You are ready to throw in the towel and start going after what you really want. Problem is, it is hard to let go of routines. Also, were you trying to sell a home or invest in a new one? Property was a huge issue for you in 2007. Why? Because you want to settle down. Finally, the elusive bachelor/bachelorette is ready for commitment. The question is: who will be that lucky person? And, how are you going to get them? Many of you know who you want that person to be, but you are just too damn scared to go after them. It gets pretty easy to be alone all the time and not socialize. You should know. You invented the system. Now you need to learn how to let someone into your private world. Game on.
Libras: it has been a sweet year, hasn’t it? Life seemed to have more purpose this year, more humor, more laughter and more love than ever before. Many of you are looking forward to the sweet things that 2008 have in store for you. It’s not about work, it’s not about responsibilities…it was all about love, family and your home this year. You dreamed of traveling and actually did it. You dreamed of painting your home in the color you wanted those walls to be, and you did it. The kitchen got new granite counters and stainless steel appliances and the new patio looks great. Home is actually more fun this year than ever before! You wanted to feel loved and appreciated…and it happened. People found themselves looking at you and thinking, “What’s your secret? You look…happy.” There is no secret. You just WERE. And it shows. Especially in your waistline…food is all the more tempting when you are footloose and fancy free. Go ahead and enjoy it.
Scorpios: blah blah blah. It’s been a pretty non-eventful year, hasn’t it? Life was calmer than ever before, which is probably a good thing since last year was a dooze. You just needed downtime, and you got it. Your energy has been a bit drained though. Is that because you aren’t entirely happy with life right now? Nothing is wrong, per say, it’s just that things don’t feel entirely right either. It doesn’t make sense! And when you talked to your friends about it, they didn’t understand either. This probably was your biggest source of frustration. Thankfully, you traveled this year and you realized the importance of quality vs. quantity in friends. One thing you know you want to work on: being less judgmental. Maybe your laissez-faire attitude towards most everything this year made you more sensitive to BS. You don’t know why, but you suddenly felt the need to call people out on their crap. The great news is that most people in your life needed that.
Sagittarians: BAM! SLAM! OOH! AHH! What a year! You rock n’ rolled your way through it with tons of stories, events, changes and decisions. Status quo wasn’t going to cut it this year, huh? You changed jobs or focused more on your professional pursuits. It came down to this: what is going to get me the most money possible to fund my lifestyle? Many of you became obsessed with saving enough money for a new home, or for eventually buying a new home. You earned more this year than ever before, but you also found yourself easily spending it. Sticking to regiments became almost a religion to you: restarting your daily exercise routine, beginning a new one, or deciding which one to focus on became a goal. You wanted to know the best way to be healthy, wealthy and wise in 2007. If something wasn’t worth your time, well, you just didn’t do it. Work became overly demanding and you started to think, “Am I getting paid enough to do this?” The answer was “No.” So you decided to do something about it. Meanwhile, people around you started to piss you off this year. Their inability to see life the way you saw it, to be on your bandwagon, or to just LEAVE YOU ALONE really bothered you. The one downside? Many of you stayed with someone because you couldn’t shake them off. Either because they were stalking you or because you just didn’t want to deal with breaking up. The end result is the same: when people ask you about them, you just grunt, roll your eyes, and sigh and say “It is what it is.”
Now, if any of this sounds familiar...well, just know you aren't alone!!! Hopefully, you will take this time to figure out how to make changes that are good for you in 2008. Start thinking of what you would like to read in your December 2008 "Year End Astrological Review" and go about becoming the change you wish to see written in my blog.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...Perfect gifts for your signs.
Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas (Hannukkah, Kwanza, et al). It’s time to bake cookies, buy fruitcakes, listen to holiday music and decorate your homes. Oh, I forgot one last important thing: it’s time to eat and drink A LOT. Wait, that’s not it either. Oh yeah, it’s time to buy gifts.
Crap.
Unless someone spells it out for you, it is hard to think of what to buy people you love (or even hate). So, checklist time:
Parents
Children
Brothers/Sisters
Misc. Relatives (Aunts/Uncles, Grandparents, Godparents)
Spouse/Partner
Friends
Co-Workers
Bosses
Doormen/Building Staff
Newspaper Delivery person
And on, and on, and on………………………
How nerve-wracking AND expensive. We need a cheat sheet of what to buy everyone. So, of course, I am going to suggest a few items based on their signs. I know, I know, ANOTHER list coming your way. So I am going to make this as simple, short and sweet as possible (after all, you shouldn’t have that much free time on your hands right now…you should be shopping! For gifts! Or drinking!). While I don’t feel like helping you on EVERY person on that above list, I can help you with getting something for that certain someone. Hey, this is a LOVE blog after all!
What to buy an…
EARTH Sign (Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo):
Earth Signs have had a tough year. They have had to make a lot of important decisions about their future (career, love life, health) that will affect them for years to come. They were stressed out this year and felt pulled in many directions…very few of which they actually wanted to go. 2007 was a year of obligations, poor health, and many decisions on how to make it better for 2008.
You can make your Earth sign happy by giving them something to pamper themselves with. I suggest the following:
Capricorn: they love their food. Buy them either a gift certificate, or take them to dinner, at their favorite restaurant. Wine and dine them and spare no expense. Let them know how much they mean to YOU and how much you need them in your life. Tell them it will all be OK. If you want to earn extra bonus points, rent a hotel room (of course, it better be a luxury one!) for the night and break out some massage oil and champagne. You figure out the rest.
Taurus: they love their drinks. Buy them an expensive bottle of wine/champagne/liquor. Preferably two of them. You could earn bonus points by putting this all together in a classy gift basket with some cheeses, crackers and other delectable items. Encourage them to enjoy some time on their own with wonderful treats to try out while relaxing to some great music, candles lit, and maybe soaking in a bath.
Virgo: they love their relaxation. Buy them an intensive spa package for a massage, haircut, manicure & pedicure, etc. Their health has suffered a lot this year and they have over-stressed themselves with all the problems in their life this year (health, wealth, career and love…WOW). Give them the much needed downtime/ “me time” they so desperately crave. That way they can relax, go home and start writing their resolutions for 2008 in a better frame of mind.
AIR Sign (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra):
Can you say “Change is in the AIR”? What a year it has been for Air Signs! Many new changes have come at them out of the blue. New jobs, new homes, new lovers, new commitments…some even welcomed new family members or began planning a new family! Change inevitably brings stress, uncertainties, and insecurities.
You can make your Air sign happy by giving them something to smile about and feel secure about…one less decision to make. I suggest the following:
Aquarius: they love feeling understood. They have been emotionally spent this year trying to figure out why they haven’t been so happy with their lives recently. Some of this is due in part to their job that they hate (OK, 99.9999% of it has to do with the job they hate), but since most of them are about to get a new job or have finally quit, that is one less thing on their plate to worry about. Well, that is, except for you. They needed you a lot this year and were quite emotional when you weren’t around (or felt you were pulling away). Tell them you love them and want to be with them. Tell them you understand how hard they have worked and stressed they have been, but despite all, you loved them. Write them a poem, a love letter, or compile a CD for them. Whatever it is, do it from the heart. If all else fails, donate money to their favorite cause...they dig that humanitarian thing.
Gemini: they love new experiences and surprises. Gemini are no stranger to nervous energy/anxiety…especially this year. They felt overworked, overwhelmed and undervalued. Many changes happened for them (notably a change of residence or work) and they are now just starting to feel a bit more settled (albeit tired!). They feel that although it has been a crazy ride, someone else was driving. Buy them a ticket to go somewhere special and SURPRISE them with it (they love that). Right now, your Gem wants a change of scenery, even if it is only for a weekend getaway. Take them somewhere where they can relax and de-stress, but also have things to do…(wine vineyard? Skiing? Random road trip?)
Libra: they love being loved. Libra thrives on feeling needed and adored. They get their balance through harmony, peace and contentment. Since this year has actually been a pretty good one for your Libra, the best thing you can do is toast to 2007 (with a super expensive champagne) and tell them that the best is yet to come. Since they love aesthetic surroundings, take them on a carriage ride (or limo) throughout the city with the best champagne; or a drive to see all the holiday decorations. Just remember: they will need a nice coat, scarf or gloves for this adventure. Make sure it is classy, designer and the right size.
FIRE Sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius):
Money, money, money! This year has been a huge financial and professional focus for your Fire Sign. They worked hard to climb up that ladder to make the money they know they are worth. If someone didn’t give it to ‘em, well, they left and went on to greener pastures. Right now, Fire signs are looking for financial stability and professional development. Sure, their personal life may have suffered a bit, but you won’t find many of them complaining about it.
You can make your Fire sign feel empowered by letting them know how proud you are of them for all they have accomplished this year. I suggest the following:
Aries: they love expensive things. Your Aries is no stranger to the finer things in life; in fact, he/she demands only the best. While that may be a considerable price tag for you to pick up, just remember all the treats they gave you this year. Return the favor. Buy them some expensive toiletries/products so they can look beautiful…for YOU. If you are tired of buying them products, go to their next favorite thing: electronics. Get them the latest and greatest phone, DVD player, stereo, iPod or something super tech.
Leo: they love to be turned on. Leo thrives on sex, passion and love (ok, also power and control) and feels solidified in their relationship with you when you show them just how much you want them. Buy them some sexy lingerie, take them somewhere special, treat them to an evening of foreplay: cocktails, dinner, dessert, dancing, a 4-star hotel room…and the rest can be left up to your Leo. If you can’t do all this for them, give them a bracelet or ring (um, not necessarily THAT type of ring), that symbolizes how much you love them and think of them. It will touch them that you care and it will delight them how beautiful it looks on.
Sagittarius: they love their adventures. Sagittarius loves trying out new things, meeting new people, taking an adventure so they can tell everyone about it. Don’t make them stay at home. Get them tickets to the theater to see their favorite production/play/opera. Then take them to the newest club or restaurant that opened up so they can feel they are the first to try it out. And be generous on the booze…they want to celebrate this year because, dammit, they worked hard and deserve to celebrate! If you want to earn EXTRA points, get them tickets to a destination of their choice. Yes, that may be a pricey gift, so if it blows your budget, settle on buying them some luggage or a carry on for their next trip.
WATER Sign (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio):
Drama, drama, drama! This has been a year of a lot of emotions for your water sign…a rollercoaster, if you will. Why? Well, good question. They don’t KNOW why. Something is missing from their life and they aren’t sure what it is. Are they in the right career? With the right person? What do they want to do next? What will make them happy? These are tough life decisions to be made…and they know it is not something that can be done overnight. Problem is, they don’t know where to start. Hint: crying alone at home isn’t the answer.
You can make your Water sign feel more stable by contributing to their personal/spiritual growth …maybe you will be the catalyst to helping them see what needs to be changed in 2008 for a better year. I suggest the following:
Pisces: they love being introspective. Sure, they can be quite charming and engaging when they want to be…but inside they are feel quiet, introspective and “still.” There is too much noise around them and they need some quiet time without any interruptions and also feel as if they are physically well. Pisces are very sensitive to any nuances in their bodies…so stress is not a good. But what works first is a quiet mind. Get them a membership to their local gym, yoga club or even to the Kennedy Center (or some kind of Opera/Broadway/Art Performance Center). Either of these options will allow them to relax and take in some very much needed “me time” while simulatenously feeding their body and/or mind.
Cancer: they love being left alone at home in a cozy environment. It’s been a stressful year and very upsetting—too many emotional/personal setbacks have made most Cancers retreat into their own personal shells. And since they don’t literally have a shell, they have chosen the comforts of their own home-- the place they love most because they feel warm and secure. Buy them a gift card to Pottery Barn, Crate&Barrel or World Market so they can buy some items for their living room or bedroom. If you don’t like gift cards, buy them several scented candles to light and maybe a soft and comfortable throw/blanket to cuddle up into while smelling the candles burning. While you are at it, throw in some kind of book they can get absorbed in (politics, self-help, or even a journal).
Scorpio: they love exploring mysteries and feeling soulful. Scorpio has had quite an unproductive year…it’s neither been great or awful. It’s just BEEN. That in and of itself may be the “worst” part; they feel a year has gone by without anything truly significant having happened. While there is little you can do about this, you can maybe tell them they are lucky to have had calm waters for the majority of this year and to start planning ahead for 2008 to be more eventful. What is REALLY missing for your Scorpio is a feeling of an intense connection to ANYTHING. So enroll them in an art class, book club, or cooking course. Give them a membership to their favorite museum. Get them involved in something they are passionate about. Once their juices are flowing again with creativity and purpose, they won’t feel so sluggish getting out of bed in the morning.
Happy Holiday Shopping!!!

Does a sign always have to be... a sign?
Ugh. Ew. My co-workers are all Cancers. Great. And that cute guy I met last night? He was a Pisces. Blech. Turns out my boss is a Taurus. God help me. Not even my cat is a good match...damn Capricorn.
My love life, career, and entire future are compromised of all the WRONG signs for me. How can this make me lucky?!
Does this sound like you? Do you know that, in general, you are surrounded by people whom you know aren't good astro matches for you? For example, even if you can't remember their exact sign, you know there are cerca 4 Scorpios, 3 Capricorns and a sprinkling of Cancers in your life, all of which don't bode well for your Libra self. Or that all your co-workers are born in the same month, and you are pretty sure it is the WRONG half of the month, astrologically speaking, for your compatibility with them?
Well, this is certainly a common "problem" to have. And by a certain age in our lives, if we DO track peoples' signs, we begin to spot out the "troublemakers" in our lives. I can't tell you how often people say to me (whilst having a convo about signs) "Ugh, I HATE Virgo's, they make me mad and frustrated; I need a Sag in my life." OK, sorry Virgo's, they don't only say that about you! But I was using you as an example. I will try for a nicer one next time so you don't spend the rest of the time reading this post wondering "Why does she hate me?" and start compiling a list of possible reasons as to why I could (in bullet point format). Don't bother. Go back to bed and take a nap...if you aren't still IN bed.
See? Even I just made a huge generalization of all the Virgo's I know. And if someone were to ask me "Who would you date sign-wise?", while I don't like to discriminate, I would probably be quick to list off certain signs on my "sh*t list" dating-wise.
But is that fair of me?
Are we too quick to judge harshly based on someone's sign, thereby not even giving them a chance? Do we like someone because they are a certain sign and therefore disregard (sometimes blatantly) all the main issues they have?
I think I have mentioned before how important it is to "date out of your astro box." Just because you are a Scorpio doesn't mean you should never ever date an Aquarius, a Sagittarius or another Scorpio. Seriously. Try them all out and see how they fit-- after all, it could be an easy trial run, you may cry "uncle" by the second date anyways! After a while you will start to notice your own compatibility with each sign. You will begin to notice "Hmmm, Sag's make me irrationally frustrated and I never know where I stand with them; while they are fun, I can't take them seriously in a relationship." Or, "You know, I LOVE Aquarians; I always date them and I think I will end up marrying one."
Now, be careful not to fall into the trap of "I ONLY will end up with an Aquarius, so if I meet a Libra, well, they are sh*t out of luck." Another sign may come along and surprise you.
A sign doesn't always have to be a sign!!! AKA, just because someone is a certain sign doesn't mean it is a sign that you should/should not give them a chance.
Don't auto-assume a person is a certain way just because they are a certain sign (don't forget, there are 11 other planets in their charts that they are dealing with!). And don't disregard a certain sign because you didn't like the last Cancer in your life. OK, note to self: if EVERY Cancer you know has screwed you over, then maybe you should steer clear of them, OK? Let them crawl into the sand and suffocate on their own. You keep on moving. Same goes if you tend to only date Sag's and realize that you never get far with them in terms of commitment. Maybe you should walk away from Sag's for a while? After all, when a Sag wants you, they will certainly chase after you and not give up.
I think the key is to not let predominate traits or stereotypes control our thinking. What am I talking about? OK, here is a cheat sheet:
Capricorn: they aren't always so serious and money-driven. Cap's love to be artistic and out-going and put flair into their lives (either through fashion, food, or travel). They can just as easily enjoy a super pricey meal at the best restaurant in town as much as they will enjoy a BBQ with close friends and family in their own backyard.
Aquarius: they aren't always so crazy. They love the security and comforts of their own home and can be quite happy to spend a night in with a glass of wine and talking all night with their best friend, lover, parent, pet, etc. Heck, sometimes they just enjoy talking to themselves! And if chattering isn't on their mood for the night, they will most likely occupy themselves with the latest book on the best-sellers list (most likely an inspirational true story or something about politics/human rights...if they aren't feeling intellectual that evening, they will be reading Vogue about fashion trends).
Pisces: they aren't always so soulful and withdrawn. Pisces love to go out and try new things and can be quite self-absorbed and temper-driven. They hate being wrong and are the first to tell you they don't like something (or passively aggressively tell you they don't like something, thereby "manipulating" you into doing exactly what they want you to do). Very very smart, and somewhat sly, for a sign that is supposed to be "so pure." You may wonder why this sounds mean when I am trying to sound positive. But this IS positive. Pisces get painted too often with the "do-gooder" brush. It's refreshing to know those little angels can be quite devilish and devious sh*ts.
Aries: they aren't always so materialistic. Aries love to be around their family and friends, and that doesn't mean it has to be in a posh club, restaurant or bar. Sure, they like knowing they CAN go to those places, but as long as they are in the company of those they love, they feel pretty damn good and may leave their wallet at home and just enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
Taurus: they aren't always so stubborn...well, most of the time. Taureans love harmony and peace and don't like fights because it disrupts their sense of harmony. So, you may find them conceding to group consensus rather than fighting for their way all the time. This doesn't happen often...and when it does, they pout about not getting their way so that you feel guilty. So take advantage of the rare times they digress from a fight and treat it as a gift from God.
Gemini: they aren't always so flighty and talkative. Gemini's are very independent and thrive on the necessity of being alone when doing things. They can entertain themselves quite well and often enjoy not having to spend the mental energy to entertain someone else. And, surprisingly, they are all great listeners. Being the Kings and Queens of Communication doesn't mean just talking. Communicating is also about listening. So grab your Gem and talk their ear off. They love it. Just be prepared for a long response from them in which they have thoroughly analyzed everything you just said.
Cancer: they aren't always so emotional and hermit-like. When they feel feisty, this sign LOVES to go out and party and be the center of attention. Sure, they may regret it the next day, so take advantage of those nights they want to party. It's a treat! And despite their being so emotional about SO many different things, this sign can also be inordinately aloof about other things or withdrawn from showing any emotion. It's all very very suspicious.
Leo: they aren't always so vain and proud. If you have earned the loyalty, love and/or friendship of a Leo, they will pretty much walk through a pile of garbage (without shoes!) if you needed them too. OK, who am I kidding? Leo's are always vain and proud. But they will be willing to push that aside if you need them to be there for you. Just remember they will want you to return the favor. Possibly by stroking their ego many many times over telling them how wonderful they are.
Virgo: they aren't always so damn analytical and critical. It's true. Sometimes this sign can turn off their highly charged mind and just LET GO. They can be quite masterful at it when they do...they can indulge in the longest naps EVER, laugh (and they always have great laughs), relax all day on the beach, or plan a vacation. It's a beautiful, lighter side of them. It doesn't last long (because, no matter what they do, even if it is grabbing a drink at Starbucks, they are always analyzing at SOME level...soy or skim milk? which is better according to the latest health reports? is this healthy for me? whatever, I just ran a few miles. Maybe I should run some more. I guess I will go with 2% milk.) And so on...
Libra: they aren't always so balanced. In fact, they almost always aren't. They are quite neurotic and are always operating on a high level of action. So don't idealize their deceptive cool manner. Inside, they are going crazy. And it's fun to know what they are thinking! They have quite devilish minds and are full of opinions...some being sassier than others.
Scorpio: they aren't always so dark and depressed. This month at least. Scorpio's can be wonderfully charming and witty and outgoing, sometimes confusing us at first with their neighboring sign, Sagittarius. You can look at your Scorpio and think "Wow, nothing phases this sign out. They are so calm." But, as with a cat that slowly starts to move its' tail when it gets annoyed to alert you that they are NOT happy with you, keep in mind that Scorpio's behave quite similar...but unlike a cat's tail, theirs is a nasty stinger.
Sagittarius: they aren't always so commitment phobic and aloof. Sag's will be the first to come to your aid, give you the shirt off their back, help you out with whatever you need. It's true! They love to pamper and take care of those they love...it makes them feel needed and loved, which is something they secretly fear they will never have or find. Sag's are great friends and can make great life partners. If you have a cold, they will be the first to go buy you medicine and get you food from your favorite restaurant. Just give them space to then go and do their own thing while you recover. They don't want to catch your cold! That would mean having to stay IN. Gasp!
So, those are some brief stereotypes and ways to look around them. Above all, keep an open mind. Don't let a person's sign make you jump to conclusions...at least, not just yet.
Next Up: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...perfect gifts for your signs.

The Stars Incline, they do not DEFINE
So this blog has been running now for almost 3 months. Wow. 3 months! We have covered a variety of topics in such a short time:
"The One"-- where to find them, how to meet them, the importance of astrological compatibility, and, most importantly, how to date them and hold onto them once you know what their screwed sign (or cusp) is.
Birth Charts-- know it, do it, live it and love it. It's an entire map of your OWN personal life and the power of your stars and planets. It doesn't get much more "wow" than that. I mean, the UNIVERSE has a MAP all about YOU.
Retro Trips-- fear and loathing in a period of despair and misery. OK, not THAT bad, but still not fun (much like going to the doctor or dentist...you gotta do it for a "tune up" but that doesn't mean you ENJOY being weighed, lectured and monitored, right?).
Now, the retro trips you can take or leave...the fact is, they DO exist and astronomers (not astrologers) do follow these planetary actions as part of their careers in understanding the solar system and how it functions. Whether you want to believe that a planets' retro actions affect YOUR own personal life is a completely different matter.
So is whether or not you believe in astrology yet. There may be some of you (I hope only some, or else I am worried I am not being a strong influence on you yet...) that are thinking "Cool blog, but I still don't believe in astrology because I don't feel I am a typical [insert sign] and Mercury is apparently in retrograde and my computer AND phone still work perfectly fine, and I always date men/women who are NOT astrologically compatible to me and we are so happy together, and that b*tch I work with has my EXACT birthday (down to the same year!) and we are NOTHING alike. So there. Bah humbug." I am preparing for Christmas already, apparently.
Guess what? You have every right to maintain the above skepticism (as long as you still think this is a "cool blog"). But there is a very important lesson in this all. Just because you have a certain sign, or a certain birth chart, does NOT mean that this is how you should define your life or character.
It also doesn't mean that astrology is all a load of bunk. Just because your horoscope doesn't come true everyday, or you aren't a typical model of your sign (however, have you actually listened to me and done your birth chart to find out what you are REALLY made of?), or you don't feel you share common characteristics with other fellow sign mates (even those born on YOUR birthday), doesn't mean it isn't all true.
THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF ASTROLOGY IS: The stars INCLINE, they do not DEFINE.
What your sign and your chart are telling you is that you are naturally inclined or predisposed to behave, act or think in a certain manner. Whether you actually embrace this "natural plan" of the Universe is up to you. Fate and destiny can only take you so far, but free will leads the way. It's all very similar to a road trip analogy: fate and destiny are the fuel in your car (your car being your body) that keeps you moving, but your free will (aka your soul) is the driver. You may already know the way to get to your destination, or ask others for help along the way, or see the better route, or go and buy a map, but it is up to you on how you wish to take this trip. Your free will ultimately decides whether to turn left or right at the fork in the road, or heck, decide to VEER OFF the road altogether. You can hang in there to your proper exit, take the shortcut, or enjoy the scenic route.
OK, I am spent on the obvious cliches.
There are so many options out there. The decisions you make, and the people you surround yourself with, will ultimately shape you just as much as your astrological sign and birth chart. Ever heard of a famous little debate called "Nature vs. Nurture?" That's what this all is! You may lean more towards Nature, more towards Nurture, or strike a fine balance between the two...but just remember: choosing NOT to identify with one aspect of your being is akin to still admitting it exists. You can know you are a flighty Gemini and actively CHOOSE not to be flighty...but that decision in and of itself proves that you feel that natural tendency to be a certain way (aka, the way the stars like to guide you) and CHOOSE not to act accordingly.
On a final note, just remember this: the Universe is much smarter and omniscient than our minds will ever be. If It wanted to create a world where everyone was the same, and every Scorpio acted in only ONE manner, and every Taurus in another, it would be a pretty boring world.
So we all play our role in making this world unique. You will take on specific facets of your sign; you may rebel against your natural inclination towards certain traits of your sign just as equally as you may embrace the other aspects. You can choose to take in more of the "bad qualities" versus the good qualities. It is all up to you. Take a look, for example, at my "Best and Worst Lists" every month under the Astrological Spotlight section. You can choose to focus on the best aspects of being a Scorpio (passion, charisma, intellectual thirst) and still be a true Scorpio...just as your goth and mean Scorpio co-worker who decided to embrace more of the bad qualities (depression, obsession and jealousies). And ironically, you may feel a strong natural inclination to act out on those bad qualities...but ultimately, you decided not to define yourself that way. That doesn't make you a better Scorpio or less of a Scorpio...it only makes you a certain, unique version of one.
Good for you.
Choose your own blend of what makes you the best Scorpio, Gemini, Leo or Virgo you know and live it out. Define yourself the way you wish to be defined, whether that means following that natural astrological inclination...or not.

The Apple that doesn't fall far from the tree...
Ever notice we tend to fall for our own fathers? mothers? whoever-it-was-that-raised-us? Sure, Freud has a lot to say about this subject, as does modern psychology in general...but astrology has its' own 2 cents to throw in as well.
Freud called it the Electra or Oedipus complex when we fall for the parent of the opposite sex. He hypothesized that we are chemically/psychologically triggered to be attracted by our opposite sex parent because we have competition with our same sex parent for their affection (needless to say, Freud was kinda screwy when it came to ideas of love and sex...and he was a Taurus-- go figure!)
OK, so that's a whole lot of psycho babble to get into for such an innocent blog...but my point is that psychologists have a whole practice/science based on this theory. And they shouldn't be the only ones to play the game!
Take a moment and think very, very hard on the following questions:
What is your father's sign?
What is your mother's sign?
Now, of course, if you weren't raised by your parents, please refer to the sign of your number one caretaker for this exercise.
OK, got their birthday(s) down? It shouldn't be that hard to think about. If it was too challenging of an exercise, well...are you serious?! I am fairly sure that if you parents forgot YOUR birthday, you would be pissed too. Plus, as you will soon find out, this is important information for you to know, kinda like your blood type or whether you are an organ donor. Serious stuff here, kids.
Now, keeping your parents' signs in mind, think about all the signs that you are surrounded with in your life in terms of friends, bosses, co-workers, and most importantly, your partner. Think of whether you tend to HATE or LOVE particular signs.
Hmm...starting to notice a pattern? Are you starting to see that all your friends are either Leo's or Capricorn's? Can you see that your enemies all tend to be Pisces and Aries? That your bosses and co-workers tend to be predominantly Gemini's or Scorpio's? That your natural inclination is to loathe Aquarians but love Taureans? That your lovers/partners/spouses tend to all be Virgo's or Sagittarian's?
And, more importantly, do you notice that these signs tend to be comparable (if not the same) as your parents? Do you find yourself comfortable with certain signs, especially in certain areas of our lives (work, friends, lovers)? Say you joke that you always fall for a Virgo, well...think about it: is your Mom a Virgo? your Dad? Do the Virgo's you always fall for remind you of your astrologically-same parent? Likewise, do you find yourself hating or distrusting people who have the same signs? Are those signs similar (if not the same) as your parent(s) that you have a "difficult" relationship(s) with?
This isn't a coincidence, folks. This is an astrological clusterf**k, or for a PG-rated version, this is what we call "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
Now, since this blog is predominantly about LOVE, I am going to focus on the strange coincidence that we tend to fall for our parents in most (if not all) of our relationships. But if you are more focused on your career or friends, then simply change any mention of love below to career, co-workers, friends, enemies, etc. You get the jist.
So, for example: you are a Libra woman. You always fall for Scorpio men. Ironically, your Mom is a Scorpio and your Dad is an Libra. You happen to be extremely close to your mother.
Now, this is clearly a "no-brainer" exercise because it is SO obvious. You are looking/always falling for your MOTHER (ha, you thought I was going to use the obvious father scenario, eh? Just attempting to keep you on your toes!). In the above scenario, note that you are extremely close to your mother. So, in looking for your perfect "Prince Charming" you are looking for a man who has the same qualities as your Mom...they both approach and demonstrate love in very similar ways/patterns. To you, this is what love is and how it manifests itself because it is all you have ever known. Since they both are the same sign, you have basically had a lifetime experience of knowing what it is like to experience the love of a Scorpio and are comfortable with all their nuances, eccentricities, etc. So, consciously or not, you seek in your love life what is already familiar to you…you seek what you have always grown up with and known.
Likewise, the relationship eccentricities between your Scorpio Mom and Libra Dad are COMFORTABLE to you and you understand them. In trying to find a comparable/same sign as your Mom, you are also recreating the relationship she had with your Dad (for this specific scenario at least). Of course, it could be even simpler if your Dad is the Scorpio and your Mom is the Libra, hence, you always fall for your father. But “All roads lead to Rome”, as they say, so the same theory applies even if we are talking about the opposite sex parent. Either way, you fall for the familiar. Consciously or not, we refer to our parents' relationship as a model of how relationships are, should be, or how you would like them to be.
I am not knocking you over with a feather when I say that this doesn't always happen so cut and dry. So, look a little broader. You are an Earth sign (Capricorn, Taurus or Virgo) and you always fall for a Fire sign (Aries, Leo or Sagittarius) and your favorite parent is a Fire sign too. OR, look at it from the flip side of the same coin: you tend to always fall for the sign/element of the parent you have the most difficulties with in an effort to become close to someone who reminds you of them. So, in this scenario, you are a Taurus woman and your Pisces father left you and your Mom when you were young. Despite all the issues you have with your father, you find yourself always falling for a Pisces man. Could this be your way of finding the love you lost? Of trying to have a similar personality loving you? Am I sounding too much like an after-school special or an Oprah episode? Sorry, but the reality is that whether you believe in astrology or not, there is SOME part of you that thinks "Oh, my Mom/Dad is that sign too!" It is human nature to want to connect things and make smaller pieces a part of a bigger whole.
It's a real kick in the head, eh?
The point is...we fall for what we know. And who do we know better than our parents? Even if they can be annoying, over-bearing, loud, embarrassing, etc, you still love them for it. So, go out there and find someone who reminds you of them and happens to share their sign/element. At the very least, you can find comfort in the fact that when/if you ever introduce your new boyfriend/girlfriend to your mother or father, they are sure to already like them and relate well to their psycho personality! Takes one to know one…
